Things New Patients Should Consider
Benefits of Invisalign Over Other Brands of Clear Aligners or In-House Aligners:
As the clear aligner demand becomes more accepted and readily available, it is important to know the difference of other brands. Invisalign became available in the late 1990s. It is the first company of clear aligners. When Dr. D’Ascoli started using Invisalign in 1999 it was only effective at treating very minor crowding and spacing problems fast forward 25 years and Dr. D’Ascoli is now skilled at using the technology for just about any orthodontic problem. Many other brands have popped in the last 5-7 years. They all compete with Invisalign on price to the Doctor or that they have some revolutionary plastic material. The truth is that they all use the same plastic and only Invisalign has their proprietary material called Smart Trak and price is moot compared to the value of 15 million patients treated with Invisalign and the data to show how to best treat different problems in Orthodontics. Dr. D’Ascoli is the first orthodontist in Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada to be Invisalign certified. He has done the most cases as a single doctor in our area. With the advent of 3D printing, some practices are making their own in-house clear aligners but they can only treat very simple problems much like Invisalign 25 years ago. Please be careful to make sure you are getting the best clear aligner product with the best doctor designing your orthodontic treatment plan for you and your loved ones.
Benefits of Seeing an Orthodontist over a General Dentist for Invisalign Treatment:
An orthodontist first becomes a general dentist, then goes onto their specialty residency of an extra 2-3 years to craft their skill in orthodontics. An orthodontist works on correcting bites and moving teeth for every patient at their practice. Orthodontics is very rewarding and specialized field that focuses on how to move teeth and creating a healthy bite for stability and longevity and think in 3-D to visualize a patient’s growth and development. A general dentist takes care of cavities, cleanings, crowns, implants, extractions, periodontal oral health, root canals, and a wide range of needs. A general dentist has a great deal of responsibility yet isn’t trained extensively in moving teeth and creating healthy stable bites. Perhaps they take a weekend class on clear aligners. Yes, there is demand for aligners. However, a general dentist might do 5 orthodontic cases in one year versus a few orthodontist who will do a few hundred cases a year. Even the majority of Orthodontists do not treat many cases with clear aligners. Dr. D’Ascoli’s expertise and experience are focused on orthodontic treatment for every patient.
Even better, a board-certified orthodontist is who you would like to take care of your loved one. Board certification is a step beyond. Much like all CPA’s are accountants but not all accountants are CPA’s. Not all orthodontists are board certified in our area. Dr D’Ascoli has been board certified since 1989.
Reasons Dr. D’Ascoli is Different than Other Orthodontists in Treating Invisalign :
Besides being the first orthodontist in our area to utilize Invisalign, Dr. D’Ascoli’s Invisalign cases have been recognized from Invisalign. Dr. D’Ascoli treats impacted teeth with Invisalign, where a very, very limited number of doctors nationally are comfortable treating these complex cases. Dr. D’Ascoli is part of an elite Top 1% study group to be informed of the latest clinical techniques and brainstorms with other top North American doctors to deliver the most advanced and efficient treatment to our patients. He is the only doctor from Northern Nevada participating in this study group. Dr. D’Ascoli has provided insight to improving Invisalign due to the number of cases and wide range of case experiences. If you have been told you are not a candidate for Invisalign, please give us an opportunity to treat you in Invisalign. Dr. D’Ascoli has experience of treating Phase 1/Early Treatment cases in young children with Invisalign First and started his own granddaughter 5 years ago who had a underbite and posterior crossbites. She looks amazing! Today it is my early treatment preference, so Dr. D’Ascoli no longer uses palatal expanders, face masks, head gear, etc. in most cases. Today parents are always looking for ways not to traumatize their children. Why not see if Dr D’Ascoli can treat your child with no permanent tooth extractions and much less trauma and discomfort.
