Brushing and Flossing with Braces
Life gets a little more complicated with braces, including brushing and flossing
When you wear braces, you need to brush after every meal and floss after every meal if possible. At the very least, you must brush three times a day and floss once. If you are uncertain what products to use, we can help.
Brushing with braces requires a special technique.
You should spend a full two minutes on brushing your teeth after every meal. Use a shoft-bristled brush with a small head and toothpaste with fluoride. Brush all surfaces of the teeth using small and gentle circles with the brush at a 45-degree angle.
Flossing with braces means working around the braces.
You can use a floss threader to get the floss behind the archwire and fully access the teeth. You want to gently floss between each set of teeth, moving the floss back and forth. Continue until you have flossed between all of your teeth. Another option is a water flosser, which is highly effective and easier for most braces patients.
